  An Update on Sustainable Urban Forest Management:
Strategies, Technology and Invasives, Oh My!
 
 


The workshop will address urban forest management tools and approaches, focusing on practical strategies that local governments may consider to advance the state of their practice. The presentation will demystify the elements of sustainable urban forest management, while also providing insight, strategies and practices to mitigate the impact of Emerald Ash Borer.

Ian Hanou, owner of Plan-It Geo, LLC, will provide an overview on elements of a successful urban forest management program, focusing on urban forest sustainability planning, case studies, and tools. A local response panel will follow Hanou’s presentation to reflect upon successes and opportunities in the Kansas City region.

Ian Hanou is recognized as a leader in urban forest planning, technology, green infrastructure, ecosystem services, research, and web/mobile software. Ian founded Plan-It Geo in 2012, where he directs business development, human resources, software product solutions, and provides senior project management.  He has managed 250 urban forestry projects involving tree inventory, canopy assessment, software, and management planning. In 2011, the Society of Municipal Arborists gave Ian an award for innovation in tree planting prioritization using geographic information systems (GIS).
