  Successful Facilitator Certificate Program

Guiding committees and holding public meetings are not easy tasks. Learn how to gain control and lead the group toward consensus.

In today's complex local government environment, the word "facilitator" implies much more than successfully running a meeting. Administrators are often expected to serve as mediators, negotiators, problem solvers, consensus builders and resolvers of conflict — all while maintaining an unbiased position.

The Successful Facilitator Certificate Program will help you develop the skills you need to meet these multifaceted demands. The highly interactive curriculum covers group dynamics, problem solving, decision making, meeting management and relationship building with elected officials and other community members. Participants will have ample opportunity to discuss and demonstrate the key elements of facilitation.

About the Instructor: Jari Holland Buck is a human resource consultant with more than 20 years experience in employee and labor relations, training and development, and team building. Buck is a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator administrator. She received a Bachelor of Arts from North Central College and a master’s degree from Northwestern University. She is creative, energetic and has highly developed problem-solving skills.

Program Structure: This 20-hour curriculum is scheduled over a five-week time period. Participants will meet once a week for four hours. The class size is limited to 12, enabling adequate time to practice facilitation techniques.

To earn the Successful Facilitator Certificate, participants must attend all
five sessions.
