Co-chair of Destination Safe Coalition and co-director for ThinkFirst Greater Kansas City,  Rose A. Simone will lead the awards ceremony — recognizing members and contributions to the coalition and safety in region.

Our keynote speaker is Jacob Nelson, the Director of Traffic Safety Advocacy and Research for AAA. Nelson’s areas of expertise strongly align with Destination Safe’s priority issues as identified in the 2013 Destination Regional Blueprint. He will speak on the topic of older drivers and AAA safety data. Nelson sees traffic safety risks and dangers as an overlooked public health threat and works to connect the dots between traffic safety research, policy and outreach activities. He has shaped public awareness campaigns that help educate drivers, families, policymakers and the media on AAA traffic safety initiatives in an effort to protect the roads most vulnerable users — children, teens and older drivers.

About the Coalition:
The Destination Safe Coalition is an award-winning partnership of federal, state and local agencies in the Kansas City metropolitan and rural areas that are dedicated to improving the safety of our region’s transportation system. The Coalition’s strength is due to its partners. The Coalition has members from many community sectors — law enforcement, engineers, safety advocates, public health officials, citizens, trauma room nurses, transit coordinators, public works managers, emergency services providers, bike-ped advocates, local officials, planners, researchers and others — who coordinate and collaborate on highway safety programs and projects.

The Destination Safe Coalition is governed by a Leadership Team. Membership on the Leadership Team represents interests that improve surface transportation safety throughout the Kansas City region.
