General Information

Project title: De Soto Recreation Trail and Connectivity Master Plan
Project description: De Sotos master plan will be focused on developing a Connectivity Plan for the City. The resulting plan will identify an integrated multi-modal transportation system focused on a pedestrian & bicycle network that connects parks, residences, commercial centers, offices and industrial development. In addition, the provision of pedestrian infrastructure (including sidewalks and trails) in low density residential portions of the City is a challenge because of the cost per resident served. The resulting study document, code updates and other strategies will foster implementation of the plan’s recommended improvements.
Project Type: Sustainable Places Project
Project Contact: Mike Brungardt
Project Location: City of De Soto, Kansas, and immediately surrounding unincorporated areas of Johnson County
Project Scope: The intended deliverable is a city-wide comprehensive "Connectivity Plan" that will focus on the provision of a network of infrastructure promoting non-motorized modes of transportation and recreation throughout the community. We expect the development of the plan will involve activities such as: • Community and Stakeholder Engagement o Public Workshops o Neighborhood Meetings o Presentations at Council Meetings o Online surveys and engagement • Public information and Advocacy Campaigns o Distribution of information via social media, direct mailings • Data Gathering and Mapping, o Socio-economic analysis of existing conditions o GIS mapping of existing facilities and potential connection corridors o Review of natural resources and • Pedestrian Access Studies o Specific pedestrian counts at particular nodes or along specific corridors o , surveys, and • Capital Improvement Planning o Determination of corridor pathways o Proposed project conceptual design, scope, and cost estimates o Prioritization of capital expenditures o Funding and financing recommendations.
