Overview
This four-hour CCTA Community Outreach Train-the-Trainer course covers Suspicious Activity Reporting and Protective Actions modules based on the "Run, Hide, Fight" and "You Are the Help, Until Help Arrives" concepts. Each module will focus on training personnel to deliver these courses to the general public and special event organizations/venues in their jurisdiction.
Objectives
- The overall goal of "You Are the Help" concept is to provide instruction for teaching basic skills to keep people with life-threatening injuries alive until professional help arrives. These skills include assessing the situation, effectively communicating with 911 operators, stopping life-threatening bleeding, positioning the injured and providing emotional support.
- The Protective Actions module focuses on terrorism, homegrown violent extremism and active shooter incidents. This includes the actions that should be taken before, during and after an event. This includes knowing your surroundings and considering lifesaving actions during an event.
- Suspicious Activity Reporting is a module mirroring the National SAR initiative. Emphasis is placed on the indicators and behaviors associated with a criminal and terrorism nexus.
